How To Create A Cosy Room Interior

How To Create A Cosy Room Interior

Winter is nearly on our doorstep and there's no better feeling than coming home to a warm, welcoming and cosy environment, so let's get ready for nesting season. Make your home even more inviting with our simple ways to create a cosy interior to snuggle up in.

1. Atmospheric lighting

Lighting is key at any time of year but even more so in autumn and winter when daylight is in short supply. With short days and early nights upon us, lighting really comes into its own in the wintertime and the benefits of layered lighting is well-known. Ambient and mood lighting offer a soft glow and should be a go-to for creating a cosy space. Opt for golden or warm bases which will reflect a warm glow into your room as well as warm white or soft white light bulbs.

2. Home fragrance

Wintertime is made that much more fragrant with our favourite wax-filled treasures that put us at ease and prompt feelings of calm and peace. Not only are they an instant way to accent your interior, they fill your home with a scent that's oh-so familiar. When choosing candles for this time of year, seek out gently spiced fragrances that are filled with cinnamon and sandalwood to create a rich and inviting atmosphere or fir tree to capture the magic of the season.

3. Textured layers

Something which makes a space feel instantly warmer and more inviting is the addition of some flush flooring—luxury rugs or carpets are a must for a welcoming space and add extra depth to a room, particularly wool, fur and cashmere. Reach for items that can be easily changed depending on the season by accenting upholstery with knitted or tartan cushions and linen bedding with velvet runners or a cashmere throw.

4. Add warm colours

Colours can be felt, meaning that they have an actual physiological influence on us—fun fact of the day! Warm (and dark) colours appear physically warmer which is why they’re used so much in ski chalets – whilst cool, light colours appear physically cooler. This doesn’t just apply to neutrals – all colours have warm undertone options. Think indigo blue instead of sky blue, moss green instead of seafoam green and aubergine instead of violet. Incorporate some extra warmth into your home with a warm wood coffee table, a caramel wool throw or a beige rug.
